First, I would like to begin this review with a positive. Ambi was very personable and extremely nice. She was a pleasure to conversate with and made me feel welcomed. Unfortunately, this was the worst message I’ve ever gotten. During the introduction, as always, I informed my therapist that I was feeling well and was looking to get my usual upper-body relaxation massage. My profile and massage appointment also indicates “Light” pressure and “Relaxation” focus. After informing Ambi of such, she asked if I would be okay with the massage gun for my back. She informed me that it would be about 15-20 minutes, and also that it allows her to “get a break” (ummm, okay). I was very apprehensive about it and didn’t give an answer the first time. After a little chatter, she asked again if I would be okay with it. It seemed that she had her mind made up already about using it during my session. So reluctantly, I did a shoulder shrug and eventually said okay after a few seconds of silence. It felt exactly as I feared it would, HORRIBLE. The majority of the time, the gun was bouncing VERY hard off my shoulder blade bones. Whatever the attachment was on the gun was clearly for deep muscle tissue. It was very hard and uncomfortable. I now have back pain in both sides of my upper back , and Tylenol has not helped at all. I don’t come to Massage Envy to go home hurting with back pain and not able to sit comfortably. What’s the use of that?? Ambi also reeked of cigarette smoke. As a non-smoker, it’s not a pleasant smell. The session started face-up with a hands-on massage for the arms and neck area. The pressure for that part was perfect. Unfortunately, it went downhill from there. Even after the massage gun was over, the little back rubbing time that remained was not satisfying. I’m very disappointed that my monthly massage was used in exchange for uncomfortable back pain, when my profile clearly says Light-pressure relaxation massage. Before this survey link was emailed to me, I had plans of writing corporate and also leaving a google review. But I’m hoping that this can be settled within. I do not live near this location, and only visited this branch because my wife had a nearby medical procedure in Hobart, IN, which took a few hours. However, we live in Chicago. As I said before, Ambi was really sweet, and I still tipped her $20 as I do every visit. Regardless of my massage experience, I never know what therapists are experiencing outside of work. Therefore, I always tip well regardless. However, it is my hope that my monthly massage can be reimbursed? I’ve never had to request anything like this before, and hope to never have to again. Please let me know.
