I generally love Massage Envy however not in Madison. I attempted to schedule either a 60 or 90 minute massage in October and the first appointment open was December 8. I took it however the night before was notified that my therapist was ill so it was cancelled. The next available appointment was Sat Jan 18 yesterday. I was looking for a therapist that did deep tissue. On the website Kimi was listed as doing deep tissue however I can only describe my massage as finger painting on my back. I asked her for firmer pressure but I dont think she was even able to go deeper. Her touch wasnt what I would call moderate but light. I had 90 minutes and asked her to focus on neck shoulders back and glutes. I admit I dozed off while on my stomach however I dont believe she ever touched my glutes. When she flipped me over she started on my arms painfully slow and lightly. I interrupted her and asked that she instead work on my neck. She truly didnt even try to move my head from one side to the other to work on the sternoclodomastoid muscle. I had to specifically ask her to do so. This was probably the worst massage Ive ever had and I have been getting them at least twice a month for almost 20 years. If it wasnt for the fact that I use my membership when I travel to Arizona I would cancel my Massage Envy membership as I cant get scheduled in my hometown of Madison. I dont believe that it is a lack of available therapists as I was a member of Elements Massage and they have plenty of therapists and appointments available. I only came back to ME as my daughter works for them in Arizona.

Unfortunately I had a strange experience from start to finish at Massage Envy. I received a gift card for Christmas and scheduled a facial online which was very simple. After I entered and had filled out the digital paperwork I made small talk with the receptionist. She told me that her day was going well except for feeling like she was going to throw up all the time. Like a stomach bug that hasnt gone away for 2 weeks. Whatever the sick policy is for employees this made me very uncomfortable. I rarely come to a spa. I do not come to potentially get the stomach flu or be told that the person serving me could vomit any minute. In the actual treatment room the lights were very bright right above my eyes. Even with my eyes closed the glare from them made relaxation difficult. Im not sure what the service provider dress code is at Massage Envy but I felt my service provider didnt look as professional as I expected. However maybe this is the norm at ME. Based on my experience at other spas I expected scrubs rather than an ME shirt obscured by a cardigan and leggings. She was pleasant and kind. The facial itself however was rather uncomfortable. Several of the treatments were done rather roughly even jostling my head. I felt like a kid who is squirming while a busy mom is putting sun screen on. I am a mom I know what thats like But I didnt expect a facial to be literally heavyhanded. This is not my first facial. I have had about 5 in my life so while Im not an expert this was by far the roughest handling Ive experienced. The towels used in various phases though warm were a bit rough. In the lobby afterwards the products recommended to me were not used during my session. I had told my service provider that I have very sensitive skin so I was very hesitant to purchase any product before trying it. Some products that I did like during the service were not available for sale. The service provider did not point to any that were available I found them myself a lip balm and lip masque. I asked the receptionist to add gratuity for my service provider. Unfortunately she only added gratuity to the main service not to the addon services. Luckily I noticed this in my car and I returned to give more gratuity. Both receptionists seemed put off by the fact that I did not want to maximize the gift card by booking three services for a discount. They exchanged a look and sort of shrugged and said Well just trying to help you get the most bang for your buck. It was slightly condescending. On the plus side my skin did feel very nice during the rest of the day. So end result very good. But the road there was very rocky. If I didnt have over 100 left on my gift card I would not return. If there would be a way to reimburse the remainder of the gift card to the person who gave it to me Id be really grateful.
