My experience was so awkward and uncomfortable. It was my first time going to massage envy. The front staff was very kind but it doesn’t seem that the front and masseuse communicate completely. The girls up front told me I could leave my bra on unclasped and the masseuse would still work on my back if that was best for my comfort, so as I was laying down on the bed with my bra unclasped Andrew(my masseuse) told me I had to take off my bra entirely. I found it weird because the front told me I could keep it on. He left the room to give me time to take my bra off and apologized for not telling me before to have it off. He comes back into the room and starts working on me, but as soon as we start he's asking me if i am a member at massage envy, which is fine, but then he was telling me about all the pros about being a member and it just did not seem like the time to try to sell me a membership while im lying half naked on a bed facing down. Then he proceeds to tell me "see you need to get work on you cause your back feels like a bumpy road". Now since this is my first time at massage envy i'm thinking this is a part of the routine where it is a must for the masseuse to sell memberships or try to convince a client, but I asked my friend about her experience(we went together on the same day/time to celebrate our birthdays, and she said her masseuse, Daniel, let her relax and never mentioned any of this which makes sense because the girls upfront ask us about memberships after our service) and it was a much different experience from mine. After Andrew is done with telling me how i need some serious work on my body, he continues to small talk which is okay, but maybe before my service starts. I shouldn't know that he has two kids one aged 12 and 14, how hes trying to raise his kids to be responsible people and not give them money for innapropraite things like and 8th of drugs. He continues and tells me that he graduated from massage school back in 2009, he tells me the year, because i mention im with my friend from highschool because he was asking me so many questions and then after this info tries to guess my age, guesses wrong, and says "oh yeah i thought you were up there with me". It all just felt so innapropriate for the situation i was in. He finally stops talking, but just making comments every now and then. when he gets to my legs he sees my tattoos and asks me if im a scorpio because i have a scorpion tattoo on my leg. After the massage just felt so rushed and he finished at 3:47. My appointment was from 3-4. I payed for 60 minutes, arrived early to do paper work and undressed pretty quickly when it came to the actual service. This massage was not relaxing at all and could not wait for the whole service to be over. Once it was over, i got dressed, he waited outside the room asked if i wanted water, which was kind, and then was waiting for me to shake his hand after. The whole thing just felt so unprofessional and a little creepy. I go to the front desk area to pay, the girls give me info on memberships, i sit down waiting for my friend because she's actually getting a proper service from 3-4 and as i was sitting there i overhear the receptionist tell one of the customers that had just walked in for her appointment that the tables have a new panic button to stop the service if needed. I wasnt verbally told about this button when i came in, and i honestly wish i would have because of how uncomfortable i felt, i probably would have pushed that button. Finally, when my friend was done with her service and we shared our experiences they were polar opposites. I can understand that every masseuse does things differently but a massage is a massage, you have this expectation to feel relaxed and ultimately safe and unfortunately, i did not have this experience here.
